Naga Women’s Union: Naga Women’s Union (NWU) while condemning the intrusion near NSCM (IM) camp at Hebron on April 19 by 29th Assam Rifles (AR) has demanded that Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) that gives “uncontrolled authority” to the army “to even jeopardize ceasefire and peace processes” not just in Nagaland but whole northeast be revoked.

Condemning the “high handedness” of the army and demanding suspension of Major Sukanta who was in charge of the command leading Jawans towards Hebron, the union appealed to the army to immediately stop frisking, raiding and harassing people especially in Dimapur and Kohima.

Naga Women’s Union also condemned the torture and killing of ‘captain;’ Yaomi by AR and reminded that the ceasefire between the GoI and NSCN came after long years of armed conflict that claimed thousands of lives; Indians and Nagas and effort should be made to maintain peace.

Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) has condemned the “unlawful” activities of 29th Assam Rifles on April 19 at Hebron Camp, Peren under the command of Major Sukanta.

The present stand- off between Assam Rifles and NSCN around Camp Hebron and other designated camps in Naga inhabited areas had created fear psychosis among the general public, particularly Zeliangrong people, stated K. Elu Ndang, Zeliang Baudi general secretary while adding that the incident was a severe provocation by AR and it was a matter of grave concern.

Zeliangrong Baudi also alleged that while Naga people were yearning for peace, the Indian Army had tactfully tried to derail the hard earned Naga Peace Process and cease-fire.

The involvement and role of Shambu Singh IAS, joint secretary, in-charge of North East, ministry of home affairs, GoI who is a Meitei hailing from Manipur speaks for itself and is highly questionable.

Even after lapse of five days since the incident, the Government of India had remained a silent spectator and chairman of CFMG must not shy away from the truth but act promptly as truth would only set everyone free and secure stated Zeliangrong Baudi.

Zeliangrong Baudi added that violation of cease-fire ground rules by 29th Assam Rifles was a direct challenge to Naga Peace Process and the economic blockade launched by Assam Rifles in the vicinity area and not allowing the public to carry more than Rs. 5000/- was a “mockery” to the Nagas and a total violation of Human Rights.

“The so called Assam Rifles ‘ Friends of the Hill People’ is ridiculous to be proclaimed and it is hypocritical” stated Zeliangrong Baudi

While adding that the matter of procedural lapses in implementing cease fire ground rules can be settled only through mutual respect, Zeliangrong Baudi appealed to GoI and NSCN to settle the present imbroglio immediately and to carry forward the Peace Process with all sincerity to ensure honorable solution.

Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland: Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland (ZBN) has said that four-day had passed since RoP of 12th Assam Rifles created “havoc” by entering the vicinity of Hebron on April 21and much have already been said and done by Naga Hoho, NSF and NMA and in-spite of the numerous appeals and good-will gesture of Naga civil societies, the Indian occupational forces “stubbornly refuses to budge”.

“The Indian forces patrolling and continued frisking in Zeliangrong land, be it Assam, Manipur or Nagaland is not something the Zeliangrong people will quietly sit and watch,” stated ZBN.

ZBN also stated that if at all assurance of state IGAR on restoring normal life in Nagaland was to be believed, “with constant patrolling, raids, intense frisking and policing the general public; do Indians still expect us to believe them.”

With mutual agreement arrived at between Naga group and CFMG chairman at Chumukedima Police Complex; ZBN question as to why AR are still patrolling, raids, frisking at Jalukiekam, Jalukie Zangdi, Dhansiripar, Doyapur, etc., ZB has requested the AR withdraw all security forces at the earliest from Zeliangrong inhabited regions, especially in and around Hebron hq. in Peren district taking into account the need for peace and security of the common people.
