Forum formed to fight corruption in Kiphire

A new forum under the banner, Citizens’ Coalition Against Corruption (CCAC), a movement for transparency and sustainable development was formed on Wednesday at the residence of Lithsaba Sangtam near Police Point, at Kiphire town.

The forum comprise of four members led by Justin Khatomong and aims for a social transformation in Kiphire district, an alliance with academies, business sector, civil organizations and social workers.

The forum also aims to strengthen public participation in governance and to ensure proper use of public funds.

CCAC further plans to combat corruption in government departments and agencies and to impart information on Right to Information Act.

CCAC will seek to achieve its aims by facilitating cooperation among government institutions, NGOs and individuals toward implementation of actions that raise accountability in government.

Another area of concern of CCAC is the problems posed by corruption, endangering the stability and security of societies, undermining the values of democracy and morality and jeopardizing social, economic and political development.

CCAC said it was concerned about the link between corruption and other forms of crime, in particular organized crime and economic crime including money- laundering, since corruption is a phenomenon that currently crosses national borders and affects all societies and economies, international cooperation to prevent and control its essential.

The forum convinced of the need to provide, upon request, technical assistance designed to improve public management systems and to enhance accountability and transparency, has sought support and cooperation from all civil societies, students’ organization and general public to fight against corruption and for the betterment of Kiphire district.
