Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) Saturday decided to call-off the proposed ‘total’ bandh in Kohima Town on July 17.
In a statement, AYO president Khrielievi Chüsi and vice president Kekhrievolie Keyho said that the decision to call off the bandh followed assurance given by state home minister Imkong L. Imchen, that the government was doing its best to ensure the security of the public.
The AYO statement said that the home minister while extending support to the cause taken up by the youth, fervently appealed to the organization not to paralyse the state capital because of the “acts of antisocial elements”.
AYO members and the home minister at the latter’s official residence on his invitation with regard to the proposed bandh scheduled on the July 17. Issues on public safety and ways and means to tackle anti-social elements were discussed during the meeting, said AYO.
The organization said that decision to call off the bandh was made taking into consideration the appeals made the home minister as well as various elders and intellectuals to reconsider the same call. AYO also expressed gratitude to all, particularly the Panchayats, G.B.s, mothers and youth organizations of various colonies in Kohima who have stood by AYO in all issues of public interest.
It may be mentioned that (AYO) had called for a 14 hour “total” Kohima bandh to show its resentment against authorities’ inability to book the culprits involved in June 7 incident where an innocent civilian was shot and injured by some unidentified gunmen at IOC Mohonkhola area. AYO had also said that different factions/groups have denied their involvement in the June 7 incident. However, till date there has been no response from any group/faction, AYO stated.
AYO had demanded that whichever faction was responsible should come forward publicly and declare for what and why that incident have taken place.
