New and renewable energy (N&RE) department installed a 10KW solar system at the office of registrar of cooperative societies Kohima on Thursday with Azheto Zhimomi adviser cooperation & sericulture as the chief guest of commissioning project.
Azheto in his speech said harvesting and utilizing solar energy was now a global concept where abundant and everlasting energy produced from the sun could be absorbed from any part of the world, adding solar energy was likely to be the only energy left in the world in a span of few decades.
Encouraging the use of solar energy, he said depletion of natural resources on earth has been posing a threat to the world community but the idea of solar energy utilization could solve the problem by reducing shortage of electricity, petroleum and gases.
He further encouraged N&RE department and state entrepreneurs to come up with new ideas for effective use of solar energy which could be a boon to the state and the nation respectively.
T.S. Angami in his address said 10KW solar power plant installation could be channelized for immediate use especially during lean period and heavy engagements of office works. However, he cautioned the department not to use heaters and other appliances, for the battery and machineries to last longer, as it consumes more power.
He said the cost of 10KW solar power plant was Rs. 38 lakh where 72% of the cost was borne by the ministry at the centre and the remaining 28% by the state government. Director also disclosed that private groups also have a provision to procure solar energy with 30% subsidy.
To encourage more people to use solar energy, he appealed to the state government to give more subsidy so the public can afford to have one.
Earlier, T. Imkonglemla Longkumer RCS in her introduction and welcome speech lauded N&RE department for installing the solar power plant.
She said the installation of solar power plants will go a long way in generating green energy and also meet the growing demands of energy in the state. Shetoyi chairman NHHDC, B.P. Chetri commissioner and secretary cooperation, Kipili MLA, and RCS staff attended the programme.
