Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Naga Council, Dimapur (NCD) have recommended the proposal of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to make it mandatory for all the shops/business establishments under its jurisdiction to keep in their respective shops certain items such as electronic weighing machine, fire extinguisher and a proper dust bin.

Inspecting the proposed items to be given to the business establishments July 26 last, DCCI members led by its president Hokivi Chishi and NCD members led by its vice president Vikato Zhimo also recommended the subsidized rates at which the DMC was offering the proposed items to shops and business establishments.

DMC subsidized rates were claimed to be well below market rates of Dimapur and Guwahati. Hokivi Chishi said it should be made compulsory for all business establishments including all kinds of institutions, hostels, hotels, market complexes and even public places to have fire extinguishers.

He also recommended that all butchers and fish sellers should install electronic weighing scale, which would prevent them from duping the customers.

NCD vice president Vikato Zhimo was of the view that apart from business establishments, private residences and other residential complexes could also install fire extinguishers and dustbins to be provided by DMC.

The proposed dustbins were stated to be more hygienic as it came along with disposable plastic bags that were able to hold at least 32 kgs/litres of garbage. DCCI and NCD members were of the view that it was high time citizens of Dimapur should be aware of potential fire hazard that lurked around all time with people not knowing when it would strike.
