A three- day training on community first responder for disaster management for Phek district organized by Nagaland State Disaster Management authority & district disaster management authority got under way at ETC (SIRD) Hall, Phek, on August 7.

DC Phek, Nikhashe Sema, in his address he said that everyone has to know how to help himself as well as others in case any disaster strikes in their respective places.

Disaster is not only about earthquakes, but includes fire accidents, landslides, and any other accidents which we may face anytime unknowingly, he said.

He added that it was good for one to be smart but it was even better being smart and having the knowledge to deal in case of a disaster situation.

“Saving a life in crunch situation is also part of a missionary work,” he said while calling upon on participants of the workshop to at least learn some basics so that they will be trained and equipped to save lives whenever we meet disaster.

He added that the intention of the workshop was to train the trainees so that they would in turn reach out to the public in their respective villages to be prepared in case of any disaster situation arising in their locality.

Training and capacity building officer, NSDMA, Khrolo-u Koza, in her introductory speech called on participants to train themselves to their best through the three day workshop, so that they would train others as they go back to their respective villages.

Phek district has been given priority due to the recent earthquakes, both of which had their epic centre in the district. She called on the participants to be ready and be helpful in case of any disaster/accidents and to become ‘a hero of the situation’.

The programme was chaired by ADC-II, Phek, Bodeno S. Colo, while welcome address was delivered by EAC (HQ) Temjennaro Longkumer.

The workshop is being attended by Home Guard officers and personnel and also youth representatives of different villages from all the sub-divisions of the district.
