Parliamentary secretary for IPR and economics & statistics, R. Tohanba on Saturday said education was a lifelong process from cradle to the grave and that if one refused to learn more and remained complacent then one would fail to keep pace with the social changes.
He was speaking at the 9th annual freshers’ social cum cultural day of Chang Students Union Kohima on the theme ‘Paradigm Shift’ held at Red Cross Complex Addressing the gathering R. Tohanba congratulated all freshers’ for their success in the examination and also welcomed students who have come to Kohima to pursue higher studies.
Stating that paper and pen were giving way to word processor, blackboard and replaced by multimedia equipment, Tohanba said “those who cannot adopt to these changes and work effectively without learning further, might be forced out of their field if they do not update their knowledge”.
Tohanba said young people will face a lot of temptation from all quarters in their everyday life but they should be focused on what they want to do in life and thwart all temptations so that they would excel in what they do.
He also reminded the students not to forget their own tradition and culture and to be prepared to play a socially relevant role in setting goals and standard of performances in leading the way and showing that there are ample opportunities available for everyone.
Speeches on the topic “No culture, no identity”, “Truth in inner being” and “dignity of labour’ were delivered by assistant director industries & commerce, Aoyemen Chang, Dr. Aphu Chang and guest of honour SP Security Kohima, O. Mongko Yanchu respectively. ‘Freshers’ voice’, melodious voice, folk tune and traditional display were the highlights of the programme. The programme was chaired by A. Rebecca while invocation prayer was pronounced by women pastor PBCK, Ayangla Shilu and welcome address was delivered by president CSUK.
