One person sustained minor injury after unknown miscreants exploded a hand grenade near the lane divider at Khermahal area, close to IDBI bank here at around 7.10 p.m. Monday.
The shrapnel from the grenade also hit a CRPF truck passing by. However, the three occupants of the truck escaped unhurt.
The injured has been identified as one Maqbul Hussain (19), a mechanic, employed in a garage near Ao Church, Khermahal. The victim was hit by a shrapnel while walking back home after work.
According to police, the victim suffered minor injury on the left leg. He was rushed to civil hospital, Dimapur and provided first aid.
Police on examining the spot recovered the lever and pin of the grenade. Police sources investigating the incident said that the grenade suspected it to be either of Chinese or Thai make.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told Nagaland Post that the grenade was hurled from a red colored car. They said miscreants sped away in the car soon as the grenade was lobbed. Further probe was on to identify and arrest the culprits and police have questioned several eyewitnesses.
