Election observer Neihu C Thur, commissioner & secretary urban development visited Mon on October 20 and held meetings with political parties and administrative officers at the office chamber of deputy commissioner regarding summary revision of electoral rolls.
Briefing on the important aspects of clean e-rolls for free and fair elections in the state, the observer said that political parties were important stakeholders to have transparent e-rolls, and called upon all political parties to extend full co-operation and support to booth level officers and work closely with the administrative officers and the election department.
He informed about the time schedule for preparation of e-rolls and urged political parties to adhere to the procedure and guidelines of election commission of India in order to avoid any complain in the future.
Neihu also informed that the general census 2001 has been rejected by the government and the ratio of e-rolls should not exceed 65% of the general population census 2011. He also called upon the political parties to build trust and confidence with each other and remove all political differences and stand collectively for the common cause.
He further informed to disseminate information about summary revision of e-rolls to every individual and household at the grass root level.
The election observer also urged the administrative officers to motivate and convince political parties and submit monitoring report in time for factual and transparent e-rolls. He informed that all election related violence and corruption started because of the proxy voters.
He also urged the administrative officers for compulsory inclusion of all youths who has attended 18 years of age as on January 1, 2013 and other genuine voters who were left out to be included in the e-rolls to enable them to exercise their franchise. On the contrary he also urged to properly scrutinized the e-rolls and delete the names of proxy, death, multiple entry, etc. from the e-rolls.
Political parties and the administrative officers also shared their problems with the observer. Dissemination of information to every constituency on summary revision, missing and miss-match of photos were also discussed at the meeting.
