Condemning the recent rape and murder of one Meena Rai by Md. Saidul Alam, an ‘illegal migrant’, at Medziphema November 2, Public Action Committee (PAC) of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) Monday said the latest incident was the same story repeating itself involving a possible illegal Bangladeshi immigrant (IBI).

In a press release, PAC coordinator Joel Kath said IBIs have regularly shown they have no respect for its masters “despite being guests in this land”.

Stating that in spite of “vociferous protestations” of various Muslim organisations, condemning such incidents, PAC said the fact was that illegal immigrants from their community were practically having a free run in the state engaging in anti-social activities.

PAC called upon Angami community of Medziphema and Chumukedima to stop the menace of illegal immigrants in their jurisdiction by identifying all such illegal immigrants and expel them.

PAC reiterated its call for boycotting business establishments of IBIs through awareness “Pledge Campaign” saying it was there to offer every help.

Reacting to press statement of Medziphema Masjid Committee that the accused was unknown to the committee, PAC said such statement was an “insult to the intelligence of all Nagas.”

According to PAC convenor certain Muslim organisations did not want identification of IBI community at any cost, which he described was “anything but to check anti-social activities by IBI community.”

PAC said when members from IBI community committed crimes, Muslim organisations refused to take responsibility and feign ignorance. It asserted that such a stance would not build healthy relationships and ultimately those organisations have to take the blame for any untoward incidents in future.

NSCW: Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) Monday strongly condemned the rape and subsequent murder of Meena Rai, a resident of Medziphema on November 2 by “an illegal migrant”.

In a statement, NSCW chairperson Sano Vamuzo said it was time Naga people wake up to the serious dangers that were looming over and infiltrating every nook and corner of the land.

NSCW also attributed the rape and murder incident to the “rampant entry of the illegal migrants” to the state and negligence on the part of the administration in checking them while issuing Inner-line Permit (ILP) to migrants coming from outside the state. NSCW appealed to all to think together to bring about a solution to this serious problem in the society.
