The two-day long primal festival of Sumi ‘Ahuna’ 2012 culminated on Wednesday with Kaito Aye minister PWD road & bridges as the chief guest (Ahuna father).
Hovishe Arkha President Sumi Hoho gave a presidential address followed by the presentation. Huskha Yepthomi former president Sumi Hoho spoke on the significance and synopsis of the Ahuna festival.
The greetings on behalf of the Sumi officers union Nagaland (SOUN) was presented by Nihoto Chishi, Secretary Law & Justice Govt. of Nagaland. Deputy commissioner Zunheboto Aden Konynak also delivered a note of greetings.
Kaito highlighted the plight of the contemporary Sumi Nagas at various levels and aspects unlike our fore-fathers who were the torch bearers of Naga community.
“The disunity and confusion amongst one another should be done away with, if the community wishes to march forward and regain its lost glorious pasts,” he said while challenging that one should rise above isms (families, clans, tribes, community) and pave way for healthy co-existence in the civilised global family.
Meantime, he urged that the rich traditional cultures and values should be treasured for the younger generations to follow up. The rich and varied cultural entertainment display were the highlights of the day; altogether seven cultural troupes participated.
KIPHIRE: Sumi community celebrated “Ahuna,” a post harvest festival in Zunheboto, Phisami and Shuruhoto on Wednesday and Thursday.
At Phisami village under Kiphire district with C. Kipili Sangtam MLA and Chairman NSMDC was the chief guest accompanied by party leaders and a host of dignitaries and from Kiphire.
Extending greetings to Sumis, C. Kipili Sangtam said the festival was being celebrated in such a grand manner due to unity in the village.
Describing Sumis as warrior tribes among the Nagas the chief guest also appealed to the leaders of Phisami village to have self confidence in their own leadership.
Briefing on the ongoing Naga negotiation talk C. Kipili Sangtam Said the fruits of Nagas has ripened and thus “something” was expected to come shortly as a blessing to the Nagas.
Kipili said that undergrounds were not “enemies or foreigner”, they are our own brother therefore every factions should come forward to develop peace and unity among Nagas. He further appealed to the factions to maintain peace and unity in order to make a future brighter of Nagas.
Other highlights of the programme included traditional fire making, cultural folksong, cultural dance, traditional weaving of clothes followed by a grand Ahuna feast.Chief guest donated a sum of Rs.200000 towards the organizing committee of Ahuna festival of Phisami village.
SHURUHOTO: Villagers of Surumi village joined the biggest festival of the Sumi, Ahuna at its local ground on November 14 under Zunheboto district with MLA and chairman NHHDC Shetoi Sumi as the chief guest.
Along with the celebration, two agri-link roads at different location and rostrum were inaugurated at Surumi village.Addressing the gathering, the chief guest said the long felt dream of the Shuruhoto was achieved through various developmental activities.
Sumi acknowledged chief ministerNeiphiu Rio and president NPF, Dr. Sürhozelie Liezietsu for their concern for the people of Shuruhoto by granting various schemes for infrastructural developments like construction of road from Yangli (Mon) through Shuruhoto, Longsa to Anghunato via Shurohoto and Asuto under NEC (88 kms), up-gradation of EAC headquarter to SDO (civil) and up-gradation of police beat post to police station, numerous up-gradation of GPS, GMS and GHS and creation of CDPO office at Asuto etc.
Vice president women wing NPF Kakhili Jakhalu appreciated MLA for bringing the differences in the village and in the neighboring areas through various developments.
The celebration was marked by demonstration of Ahuna significance, folk tunes and Ahuna feast hosted by the MLA and family.
