Former minister for information and public relation (IPR), N Thomas Ngullie on Tuesday underlined the need to derive political wisdom and to lead the people towards prosperity.
Thomas Ngullie said this while addressing the 10th annual general conference of Lotha Middle Range Students’ Union (LMRSU) observed on the theme ‘Awakening through social challenges’ in Baghty town. The annual conference was hosted by Baghty Students’ Union.
Referring to the Biblical verse, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God…. And all these things shall be added unto you,” Thomas called upon the students to seek wisdom from politics so they may derive the knowledge in order to lead the people in the right direction towards prosperity.
He urged the students to be socially conscious and remain vigil in their pursuit for bringing about transformation in the society.
Urging the students to know the ground reality, Thomas said, “We should not be experts only in doing post mortem of the past but should be innovative.”
He further advised the students that holding multiple academic degrees does not make a good leade but a good leader is one chosen by God and one who will always be ready to work and sacrifice for his people.
Earlier at the programme, Thomas unfurled the union’s flag.
Theme speaker and deputy registrar of Nagaland University, Lumami, Dr. Abemo Odyuo called upon the students to live an active life and become resourceful persons of tomorrow.
He advised them to be agents of change and to ponder on system that were holding back the present society from progression. He also urged the students to shun ‘ism’ if the Lotha community has to survive, adding the community needed visionary leaders to lead them to greater height.
Guest of honour and secretary for land revenue, YL Jami said there is no substitute to hard work and without work hard, then they would not achieve what the past generation had achieved.
While stating that the responsibilities of politicians are to frame the policy of development, he said it should be the responsibility of the technocrats and bureaucrats to implement the policy.
Also stating that student bodies are also NGOs, he said they have equal responsibility to act as a pressure groups or catalysts for any development and to monitor for proper implementation of a given work in the concern areas, districts or as well as in the state.
