Along with the rest of the nation, Nagaland also celebrated the ‘National Girl Child Day’ on January 24, at Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kitsubozou, Kohima.
55 children attended the programme including parents and Church members attended the programme. Organised by the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) together with the State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW), Gracy Ayee, state coordinator, SRCW, chaired the session, where pastor, Veküthonu Lohe, invoked God’s blessings.
Sharing the significance of the day, Daisy Mezhur, secretary, NSSWB, addressed the need to value and nurture the girl child and especially urged all the girls to know that “each one of them is special”.
Sano Vamuzo, former chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Women, who graced the occasion as special guest, encouraged the children to respect and honour their parents and also exhorted the young boys to love and care for their sisters.
Meneno V. Rhakho, research officer, SRCW, proposed the vote of thanks while benediction was pronounced by pastor, Athono Rhakho, Chakhesang Baptist Church.
Various activities including games, painting and cake cutting were held.
