Dimapur district observed world TB day by organizing rally from Dimapur district hospital to Don Bosco square by the doctors of both government and private and students of nursing school district hospital Dimapur with a theme “zero death from TB in my life” entering the second year of the two year stop TB in my lifetime of the world TB day Campaign.
Chief medical officer, Dimapur Dr. Sukhato N Sema said Tuberculosis, also called TB was one of the world’s deadliest diseases, where one third of the world population is infected with TB.
He said each year, almost nine million people around the world become are infected with TB, and one and half million die from it.
He however added that fortunately, TB disease is preventable and treatable. Dr. Sukhato also said everyone has the role to play so that one day TB will be eliminated.
He said the fight to stop TB will only be successful if community leaders, health providers, administrators, media, partners from all sectors of the society join resources and collaborate to find solutions.
MOKOKCHUNG: World TB Day was celebrated at medical fellowship Mokokchung on March 24 where doctors, nurses, health staff, church leaders and ward chairmen of Lijaba Lijen and Majakong ward attended the program.
The program was chaired by Dr. Akaba deputy CMO Mokokchung and Dr. Chubatemsu DTO Mokokchung enlightened the gathering on the message basing on the theme.
He also highlighted how TB patients should take medicines regularly and asked DOTS provider to be dedicated and understanding towards the patients and to recognize the simple rules of anti-TB chemotherapy and treat patients regularly.
He also highlighted that the biggest problem of TB control was ‘Dormant TB bacilli’ but the recent discovery of the hiding place of dormant TB bacilli has given new hope for controlling TB.
Zothisa Dawhou exhorted the gathering to do away with the stigma and discrimination because TB was a curable disease and called upon the people to unite together and form a mass movement to fight and eradicate TB disease from the society.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Akaba deputy CMO Mokokchung and the program concluded with mass prayer.
PHEK: District health society Phek, RNTCP with Emmanuel Hospital Association 5th NAP Phek observed TB awareness program on March 24 on the theme ‘Not TB death in my lifetime’.
The awareness program was conducted in collaboration with 5th NAP Bn. Phek. Dr. James DTO Phek highlighted the participants on the importance of taking complete TB course as it was curable.
He spoke on the symptoms of TB where one could identify it if he/she is infected. He also informed about the facilities, and diagnosis and treatment available free of cost in the health centre.
The program started with Rev. David pastor 5th NAP pronouncing the invocation, while S.N Singson Dy. Commandant (Adjudant) 5th NAP concluded with a vote of thanks. IEC materials on TB were distributed to the gathering.
TOTSU: RNTCP staff Wokha in collaboration with Thera Welfare Society (TWS) Wozhuro conducted World TB Day at Totsu village on March 24.
During the programme, president TWS Therali Tungoe spoke about TB scenario in Nagaland. She emphasised on the symptoms of TB and facilities.
Earlier, the program was chaired by Etsorhomo Senior Tech Supervisor RNTCP Wokha. Church members including GPRN Thungpo Brigade Totsu attended the programme.
The president on behalf of the society expressed her gratitude to Robin DTO RNTCP, Wokha for sponsoring the programme in Totsu area.
