Ao Senden, the apex organization of the Ao (Naga) tribe after their federal assembly held Tuesday at their office has declared to vehemently oppose the proposed move by the state government to include Mao tribe as 18th Scheduled Tribe (ST) of Nagaland and also resolved to stand for ‘de-recognition of Rongmei tribe as a recognized tribe in the State’.
Ao Senden president Dr. Sangyu Yaden and secretary Tsupong Longchar have criticized the state government for its move to include Mao tribe in the ST list.
The two asserted that Ao Senden was ready to “fight tooth and nail” against this policy of the government which would affect the well-being of the people.
It was also learnt that the members at the meeting unanimously resolved to move for de-recognition of Rongmei tribe.
The meeting also saw decided to support the demand for the construction of the proposed foothills road from Dimapur to Mon district and officially assigned Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) the responsibility to take up the matter along with different tribal hohos and NGOs.
The Ao apex body gave its assurance to assist Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur until the “common dream” of the people was fulfilled.
In the meeting the Ao Senden also resolved to include two members from Tuli town in the Ao Senden Federal Assembly as proposed by Tuli Town Ward Union.
