Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) or BPCC (A-N) has appealed the people of both Assam and Nagaland, NGOs and the two governments to find logistic ways and means towards bringing “peace and coordinated living” of Assamese and Nagas as existed since time immemorial.
In a joint press release, BPCC (A-N) president B.P. Bora and vice president Imsu Jamir appealed both sides to concentrate on peace and development of the border areas for “national interest.”
Since its inception in 2005, Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) has been observing that some NGOs of Assam resort to road blockade to press for their demands which resulted in “suffering of innocent people of both sides”, said the press release.
It reminded that due to the road blockade imposed by All Assam Tea Tribes’ Students Association imposed road blockade and the action of a legislator from Mariani, Nagaland government had to “seal all kinds of transaction either ways.” Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) while stating that it could not “rule out such a decision” by Nagaland government, appealed that the matter be taken up with the government of Assam for an amicable settlement.
The committee also said bodies like North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) could ensure that such road blockades would not be repeated in future by any groups while stressing on negotiations to fulfill demand/s of people on both sides.
