Forum of Golaghat and Wokha Districts” (FFoGWD) handing and taking over of charge for new office bearers for the tenure 2012-14 was held at Merapani Town under Golaghat, Assam Thursday.
Press secretary, FFoGWD, Thunglamo, in a press release stated that a good number of members from both the districts attended the meeting.
Taking charge as the new chairman of the forum, Pinyimthung Lotha called both Golaghat and Wokha people to maintain cordial relationship and to come to an understanding for extending co-operation for lasting peaceful atmosphere in the border areas.
The two districts held threadbare discussions relating to border problems, and further agreed to propagate the ideas and concept of the forum to the people, that both the sides have consented to preserve and educate the people to respect each other.
Speaking at the gathering, Yansathung Jami, former convener, of the forum opined, “We are one – we are not people from across ocean – let us uphold the good spirit and adhered to respect the age old relations between the Ahom and the Nagas”.
Others who spoke in the meeting were Ntsemo Ngullie, Chairman, Lotha Hoho Dimapur, Mensemo Yanthan (IAS) Rtd., Dinesh Gogoi and Capt. T. Nath (Retd).
Resolutions adopted during the meeting were – to organise cultural exchange and sports for bringing strong relationship between the two districts of Assam and Nagaland (i.e. Ahoms of Assam and Kyongs of Nagaland), to propagate the ideas and concept of the forum and to reach out to the people living at adjoining border areas by preserving and respecting each other’s belongings, initiation of an economic blockage and bandhs by either of the sides were resolved to discourage, if any dispute/misunderstanding arises at the adjoining border belts will be tabled by the forum for bringing amicable justice through negotiation and mutual trust.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Elvis Baruah a prominent social worker and general secretary of the forum.
