Four cadres purportedly from the NSCN (I-M) and two other civilians were arrested by Dimapur police on June 11 night for the June 9 kidnap of a contractor identified as Abdul Rehman (45), son of late S. Ali and a resident of Railway Crossing Area, Rangapahar, Dimapur.
Briefing media persons, SDPO, Niuland, Mhonyamo Tsopoe, revealed that the kidnapped victim managed to escape on June 11 morning after which he informed the police.
On being informed, police swung into action and eventually managed to nab the six persons from different locations in and around the vicinity of Sovima village, 7th Mile Dimapur.
Police also revealed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs.2 Lakhs from the family of the victim for his release. Tsopoe disclosed that the kidnappers blindfolded the victim by claiming they were from the “Special Branch”
The six accused have been identified as – ‘sergeant’ Asing Jagoi (27), ‘sergeant major’ Ahei Konyak (32), ‘corporal’ Kevi Rupü (25) and ‘lieut’. Alha Mvun (38).
The other two civilians were identified as Pituo Zumvü (38), and Sombhu Monda (29). Police also said that ten empty cases of AK Rifle ammunition, five empty cases of 9mm, two empty cases of .32 and one empty case of .22 were recovered from the house where the victim was held hostage.
Meanwhile, Thahekhu Village Council (TVC) expressed appreciation to officer-in-charge, Sub-Urban Police Station, Dimapur, Apong Jamir, and his team for rescuing Abdul Rehman, kidnapped on June 9 from Thahekhu village, Block-3.
The village council chairman, K. Kakheho Yepthomi, in a press statement revealed that the victim was a mason.
