A meeting of the Ao Senden federal assembly here today did not take any decision on whether or not to lift the road blockade along the national highways connecting Mokokchung with Dimapur passing through Mariani and Amguri but empowered the Presidential Council to take the final call.

Ao Senden’s Presidential Council is slated to meet on Thursday June 13 and might discuss the matter.
Meanwhile, a government delegation led by home minister G.Kaito Aye and which included planning minister T.R. Zeliang, roads and bridges minister Azo Neinu including Chingwang Konyak political advisor to the chief minister arrived Mokokchung for a meeting the Ao Senden in the DC’s conference hall here today.

The joint meeting discussed several issues related with the Ao Senden’s five-point charter of demands. The government delegation reaffirmed the assurance made earlier, in accepting all the demands put forward by the Senden.

It may be recalled that on June 10 a meeting was held in Kohima between the chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir and the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, representing the Ao Senden. At the meeting, the chief secretary informed the ASTD of the state government’s acceptance of all demands of the Ao Senden.

Talking with media persons after the joint meeting here today, Ao Senden President  Dr. Sangyu Yaden disclosed that the government delegation had given a “positive” response to the Senden’s insistence on clear assurance in “black and white”.

He said the government side assured that the commitment would be faxed to the Senden through the office of the DC Mokokchung by Thursday since Wednesday’s meeting took a long time.  He also said that the government delegation expressed seriousness about the issues and the desire to resolve the problems at the earliest.

Speculations were rife here, that following the positive development, the ongoing blockade could be lifted by Thursday. Though the blockade continued Wednesday, it is believed that the Ao Senden Presidential Council would suspend the blockade temporarily.

YAN lauds govt., Senden
DIMAPUR, JUN 12 (NPN): Youth Association of Nagaland (YAN) has lauded the state government for agreeing to fulfill Ao Senden’s demands and expressed hope that the government would implement its assurance both in letter and spirit.

In a press release, YAN president V. Hetoi Chishi also appreciated the Ao Senden for its “undaunted move towards bringing a historic change” for the betterment of the society.

YAN, however, pointed out that development activities for better transportation and communication was still lagging behind in many important areas of the state.

YAN stated that decades-old neglected Dimapur-Wokha-Mokokchung-Longleng-Mon road project needed to be supported by all for expediting the project and timely completion. It reminded all responsible to abstain from land compensation and come out with an exemplary support for the construction of the road.

Stating that the question of curving a single lane road to facilitate travelers was in no way the agenda to serve the purpose, YAN said government was expected to come out with the four-lane.

It said government should bring about permanent settlement to the border disputes and suggested Centre, Assam and Nagaland take serious account on “illegal immigrants and illegal Adivasis settlers” in the border areas.
