VAHW training held for Kohima district

Village Animal Health Worker (VAHW) training programme for Kohima district was conducted on June 3 – 4 by NEPED-NRTT at Integrated Extension Training Centre (IETC) and All India Coordinated and Research Project on Pig (AICRP on Pig), Medziphema.

In her introductory speech Kohima district in charge, NEPED-NRTT, Shuyhunle Nyenthong, gave a brief introduction on NEPED-NRTT’s vision, objectives, goals and role and responsibilities of animal health workers. 

She highlighted the benefits of rearing pig which could benefit the economy of the village community and earn a livelihood through self-sustaining, learn to eliminate disease, reduce sickness and lowering health care cost.

She also thanked the resource person for their commitment and dedication in conducting the training.
Professor V.B Sharma said the best benefit of attending training was the training was put into practice and asked the trainees to improve themselves adding that self improvement was the key to reach the people back home.

The resource persons were deputy project director, SAMETI, Medziphema, Dr. Ithika Swu, junior research fellowship, AICRP on Pig, NU SASRD Medziphema, Dr. Riisalie Nakhro, project in-charge AICRP on Pig, NU, SASRD Medziphema Dr. Catherine Rutsa and Dr. Gwazenlo Tep.

Health workers from 16 project villages attended the program and were benefited on pig rearing. Certificates were distributed to all the trainees wherein Tokhunu Semy from Nsunyu and Ravolie Sogotsu from Kohima Village were declared as the best participants.

Meanwhile, the participants also expressed gratitude to NEPED-NRTT and AICRP on Pig, Medziphema for conducting the much needed training on pig rearing, adding it was an eye opener to know how to give vaccinations, castrations and differentiate their sickness and feeding. They felt that pig rearing could earn a livelihood and also boost the state’s economy.
