Exactly five months to the day since the state government assured it would address their grievances, members of Aggrieved Medical Employees Union Wokha (AMEUW) Monday launched their second phase of agitation against the government’s failure to on its assurances.

AMEUW president Thungjabeni Lotha and secretary, Lumdemo Lotha, claimed that chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir had assured them on January 24 that their grievances would be addressed within a month. Based on the assurances, AMEUW suspended its agitation, they said.

However since nothing was forthcoming AMEUW renewed its agitation Monday by locking the doors of the CMO Wokha.

AMEUW warned that if the government failed to respond positively within a few days, it will intensify the agitation by closing down all medical establishments in Wokha.

AMEUW was protesting against the ‘de facto suspension’ when salaries since May 2012 have been withheld without any valid reasons.
