Nagaland governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar said state need peace to prevail, to perform duties, to provide services to society, for economic development and creation of employment and added that peace was needed for securing the future of Naga youth and for the future of the Naga society.
Governor said this was addressing a gathering as the chief guest at the 11th installation programme of Rotary club Kohima at Hotel Japfü, Wednesday.
Dr. Ashwani Kumar said he was concerned and pained to see the violence and proliferation of weapons, arms and ammunition, licensed and unlicensed, by underground and over ground as reported in the newspapers.
Congratulating the new president and office bearers and directors of the club, the governor appealed all Rotarians and leaders of Nagaland to take initiatives to abjure violence, promote peace and promise to resolve all conflicts through dialogue.
Expressing his concern over sanitation, the governor said there was a need for collective effort for better sanitation in urban areas for which he appealed everyone to join hands to make Kohima more beautiful, clean and green.
Asserting that one of his main concerns has been the status of women in Naga society, the governor said it was a matter of pride for the state that a Naga lady has been installed as the club president.
Recalling that the club earlier had two women presidents, Dr. Ashwani Kumar noted that the club has eight women members out of 32 club members.
He then exuded hope that this tradition of Kohima Rotary club would inspire other organizations of Naga society to become more gender sensitive and accord women equal status in all decision making structures.
Governor also acknowledged the works of the club in the field of education, vocational training, sanitation, healthcare, housing, charity work at Kohima Orphanage , water supply projects at Chiechama and Mao, cleft lip operations, free heart surgery for children, immunization and laparoscopy operations.
The programme was led by Rtn. Dr. Neisatuo Mero president RC Kohima, installation candle lit by Rtn. Chandu Agarwal district governor N while special song “rotary four way test” was presented by Dr. V. Pienyu and friends.
Secretary report was given by Robert Khuvung, acceptance speech by new president Rtn. Rosemary Dzüvichü, announcement by Rtn. Arepla Chang new secretary RC Kohima and a brief report of RC Kohima by Rtn. Dr.K.Keditsu.
