Graduation-cum-freshers’ day of St. Xavier College, Jalukie was held on July 30 at the seminary auditorium with deputy commissioner, Peren district, Senti Ao.

The chief guest in his speech spoke on the challenges of education in the life, he said student life was “very simple” in 70’s and 80’s and that passing class 10 was considered “great” and passing class 12 was “very great” and one would be considered as a “superman” if one became a graduate.

He however added that at present education demands each one to excel and not merely passing saying that one should be able to come out as the best in the world.

Citing Arnauld Angelique quote “Perfection consists not in doing extraordinary things, but in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well”, Senti Ao said one should follow the hearts’ promptings and use one’s own imagination and asked the students not to let others decide what they want to do in life.

Delivering a welcome speech, Reverend Fr. Jose Lukose, principal of the College, viewed that remoteness and backwardness are excuses of a lazy man who does not wish growth and development.

“Anyone who is hard working, sincere and willing to persevere will surely achieve success”, said Fr. Jose and added that the achievement of two students who secured 5th and 11th ranks and securing 100% pass both in honours and general courses were examples of it.

T. R. Tanchuilung on behalf of the graduates thanked the College management and staff for their sincere service and support. To mark the occasion, the students presented a number of items.

The programme was attended by Governing Board members, representatives of Old Jalukie, B’ Jalukie, Samziuram, Town Committee, parents and special invitees.
