Work distribution for I-Day celebration

Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland State would be observing Independence Day on August 15, 2013 at the Secretariat plaza, Kohima.

In this connection a meeting was held on July 12 under the chairmanship of Home Commissioner, Nagaland at his office chamber.

At the meeting, health & family welfare department would was asked to arrange medical coverage during the celebration while PHED department was given the task of putting up of flag posts from the official residence of the Chief Minister to the Civil Secretariat.

Road maintenance, painting and cleaning along the road within Kohima town would be done by PWD (R&B) department, while IPR department was directed to arrange all necessary PA equipments to install and make them operational, in the ceremonial and evening function.

The IPR department would also arrange announcement/compere and media coverage during the function.

PWD (Housing) and Police department would carry out necessary paintings and facelift of the rostrum and galleries at the parade ground.

Art & Culture and Horticulture departments were asked to manage other artistic decorations and beautification of the rostrum.

The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) were informed to direct all the shopkeepers and business establishment for painting and white washing of the front side of the building and shops facing the roadside before August 12 and ensure hoisting of National flag on the top of the shops and buildings by 6 a.m. on August 15. Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kohima would arrange the traditional/tribal escort for the chief guest.

DC Kohima has also been entrusted to make necessary arrangements with prominent NGOs/Civil societies with regard to visitation of institutions such as hospitals, jails, orphanage etc and distribution of sweets in the parade ground and intimate the details to the Home department.

DGP was entrusted to provide refreshment for VIPs and officers in the secretariat plaza during the ceremonial function.

There would be presentation of awards on Independence Day for which DC Kohima was asked to make necessary arrangement for presenters in traditional attires while the Home department would the awards/medals.

For printing and distribution of speech, programme and invitation cards, Home department has been entrusted to coordinate with the printing & stationery department. DC Kohima would make necessary arrangement for issuing of car passes in coordination with SP Kohima.

Furthermore, the following contingents would take part in the ceremonial parade- 164 Naga Territorial Army, 19 Assam Rifles, CRPF, 4 NAP, DEF Kohima, Mahila battalion, Home Guards, NCC (Boys and Girls), Bharat Scouts & Guides, Ex-Servicemen and School students.

Other highlights would include mass drill display, entertainment items and cultural items which are to be managed by art & culture department, 19th Assam Rifles, CRPF and Nagaland Social Welfare Board. DGP, Commandant 19th Assam Rifles and Nagaland Social Welfare Board have been directed to make necessary arrangement for band display.

Director youth resources & sports was entrusted to make arrangements for the exhibition football match to be played between Kohima Veterans, Naga Territorial Army and Assam Rifles in the evening programme.

SP Kohima, under the supervision of Director General of Police Nagaland, would co-ordinate with all the security agencies for maintaining peaceful atmosphere during the celebration of Independence Day.
