ASUD to organize ‘The Morung Fest’ in Dmu

Ao Students’ Union Diphupar (ASUD) would be organizing “The Morung Fest” on November 4 and 5 on the theme ‘Vibrant of the Nagas’ at Agri Expo site, 4th Mile, Dimapur, with road and bridges minister Kuzholuzo Neinu, who is also a resident of Diphupar village, as chief host and MLA Jacob Zhimomi as co-host of the festival.

Speaking to media persons at his private residence at Diphupar village here, Kuzholuzo Neinu said the main aim for organizing this festival was to create unity among Nagas and to promote and showcase Naga cuisines.

Citing Diphupar village as an ideal model to create unity among Nagas, Azo said “Diphupar is one village that rise above tribalism. It is well integrated village”.

Concurring with Azo’s statement, Jacob Zhimomi said one important objective of this two-day festival would be for Naga unity. Talking about the importance of this festival, he said “Food is the integral part of Naga culture”.

Though the festival will have different competitions including volley ball, choral and literary competitions, the greater part would be centered on Food Competition.

ASUD said they were organizing the fest with the support of all the tribal student bodies under Diphupar Naga Students’ Union.

They also said that the main concept of this festival was to portray the significance of Naga Morung among young Nagas, which was both for entertaintment and cultural preservation.

Diphupar village council also expressed their support towards this festival. Azo added that there would not be any continental dishes but only Naga dishes during the festival.

According to the organizers, the food competition would be open only to student bodies. While the Choral competition was open to churches and volleyball competition open to all.

More than 20 student units from different Naga tribes inhabiting different parts of North East India have signed up for be a part festival.
