Taking serious note over the inability of the department to appoint teachers on time, Nagaland Government Higher Secondary Employees Association (NGHSSEA) Friday asserted ‘red-tapism and lengthy bureaucratic procedures” was partly responsible for the mess that department was confronted with.
In a press release, NGHSSEA president Zasekhoyi Ringa, vice president N Janbemo Humtsoe and general secretary Kelhikha Kenye said government should first try to find ways to remove “this needlessly time-consuming procedure”, which was eating up much time and resources, and introduce reforms to improve efficiency in the system.
They said in the case of GHSS Mon, the repeated appeals regarding shortage of teachers fell on deaf ears, which put the career and future of the students in difficult situation.
They also pointed out said students would be appearing selection examination soon without having a teacher in Math and Physics.
Moreover, the signatories said there were only two English teachers where as the school should have at least six teachers. The school is also running with single teachers in sociology, geography, and chemistry, NGHSSEA stated.
Maintaining that shortage of teachers was not confined to GHSS Mon alone, the signatories said almost all the higher secondary schools in the state faced similar problems and many schools were running without any teacher in some subjects.
NGHSSEA stated that recent upgradation of 22 higher secondary schools without appointing teachers on time has caused trauma and confusion to the students and parents who had sought admission from those newly upgraded schools.
The association said such situations could have been be averted if proper assessments of manpower requirements were carried out and appointments made beforehand.
“Callousness on the part of the government in effective management and streamlining the education department could have far reaching consequences on the standard and quality of education in the state,” they underlined.
Meanwhile, NGHSSEA has appealed to the students of GHSS Mon to call off their agitation and attend classes at the earliest for the welfare and interests of all concerned.
