North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) Kohima branch organized a two-day workshop cum training programme on ‘Micro Finance for Beginners’ at Conference Hall, Hotel Cimorb, Kohima from September 5 to 6.
A total of 20 participants from 11 different local NGO’s with their reach in almost all the districts of the state attended the programme.
NEDFi has been working towards developing & supporting NGOs in providing microfinance services to the “needy” for taking up income generating activity.
This programme was organized with an aim to build up the capacity of the local NGOs in the field of microfinance for promoting the microfinance movement in Nagaland.
The resource person for the programme, Sanjeeban Kr. Mahanta, Asst Manager, NEDFi Guwahati explained in detail during the course of the programme on basic fundamentals which need to be understood by a beginner NGO venturing into microfinance activity.
He also presented practical scenario of microfinance by sighting few live examples. Mahanta also informed the participants to take initiatives for starting microfinance in their respective areas for which NEDFi would extend all the necessary support & guidance in future.
Branch Manager, NEDFi Kohima branch, K. Jianthailung, deliberated to the participants that as per NEDFi’s past experience in the field of microfinance, NGOs of the state needs to enhance their skill and knowledge for proper implementation of microfinance.
For this, he said continuous capacity building effort was required from various stakeholders.
With NEDFi being a pioneer development financial institution of the region, the Kohima branch organized the programme as an initial step.
Further, he informed the participants that if necessary, NEDFi would organize many such programmes, in future provided the NGOs also respond positively to such initiative.
