District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) Dimapur, which met at DC’s conference hall October 5, stressed on quality control and expressed the need to create awareness campaign and to look into the quality aspect of construction.

According to a DIPR report, parliamentary secretary for IT & C, TE, S&T and taxes Tovihoto Ayemi and MLA and development authority of Nagaland (DAN) chairman Jacob Zhimomi also attended the meeting.

Tovihoto, who is the chairman of DPDB Dimapur, in his remark to a power point presentation by state quality control board (SQCB) convener, stated awareness campaign should be carried out at the earliest in the state for initiating further necessary changes and steps effectively.

He said awareness needed to be created not only at the district level but also at the grassroots and village levels, making the public aware on what quality control was all about.

On the question of deduction and cuts from the actual amounts in contract works, which left only little room for quality construction, Tovihoto called upon the responsible department and technical professionals to look into the matter.

MLA and DAN chairman Jacob Zhimomi, in his remark, suggested that in order to bring quality development it would be good if contractors in the state were registered in the SQCB so they carried out their works as per the norms and rules specified and prescribed by SQCB.

He also added that the standard of construction should not be below the minimum specification and in the case of road construction, the drainage construction should be mandatory.

DC Dimapur N.Hushili Sema said all were responsible for quality control and that change was required.

Meanwhile, the board gave approval for opening of Cornerstone College Dimapur, opening of New Life Academy, Purana Bazar, up gradation of Regional Hughes Shaw Memorial School from class V to VIII, Niuland Dimapur, opening of Rainbow Academy 2 ½ mile Darogapathar and further gave recommendation for recognition of Timothy Theological Institute and College Thahekhu Block IV and issue of No Objection certificate for Maple Tree School affiliation to CBSE.

Further, the deputy commissioner gave assurance to the CMO & CS Dimapur Civil Hospital to look into the matter of departmental land encroachment.

On the matter of disposal of medical waste from the hospital, the CMO was advised to have a meeting with the DMC and Pollution Control Board Dimapur.
