Rengma Students Union (RSU) during its tour progaramme to Rengmapani (Njophen village) detected a number of discrepancies associated with the educational system.

RSU president, Caleb Magh and general secretary, Gwatilo Kent in a press statement stated that the annual school programme was carried out from September 9 to October 17, where eight groups were dispersed into different Rengma villages covering 64 schools.

During its intensive tour, RSU said it has found out that different kinds of teaching methodology framed by the government from Delhi were sometime “not applicable” to the rural areas.

With the intervention of the government and initiative of SSA and RMSA, most of the schools have better infrastructures, said RSU but added that the team was dismayed on finding :deteriorating quality of education:.

“Nagas need better implementation of quality and employable education and not high literacy rate”, RSU added.

Meanwhile, RSU said shortage of teachers have been detected in most of the schools, where government high school, Sendenyu, one of the remotest villages having good number of students have no mathematics and science teachers.

However, the union appreciated the headmasters and staff, VECs and VCCs of Sendenyu village for sponsoring a private science teacher at GHS Sendenyu.

With regard to this, the union has appealed to the department officials to thoroughly check and intervene on such genuine cases, where there is “shortage of teachers”. It also appealed to the teacher in-charge and VECs, VCCs to utilize government funds judiciously for the better infrastructure development of the schools.

Later in a joint meeting with teachers, village leaders in various schools, RSU reminded that it will not tolerate “any ghost teachers, who appear once on blue moon, thus victimizing the future generation”.
