Parliamentary secretary AH & Veterinary, Yitachu said Molungkimong & Molungyimsen villages under Mokokchung district are appropriate places to be called pilgrimage sites given their historical importance for all Nagas with specific reference to the advent of Christianity in the state.
He shared this view before proceeding for the 14 kilometre pilgrim walk to Molungyimsen and Molungkimong village which was initiated by him under the aegis of Naga Baptist Convention, Myanmar, the apex Baptist Denomination Organisation of Myanmar Nagas.
Speaking at a fellowship after reaching the destination at Rev. Dr & Mrs. E. W Clark compound beneath the historical litchi tree which was planted by Rev. Dr. E. W Clark in 1878, the legislator said that as a Christian majority state it was the bounden duty of the people of the state to promote a place like Molungyimsen and Molungkimong village as pilgrimage sites for their historical significance.
He said besides the reaping the benefit of tourism, any visitors to these sites could renew and re-strengthen their faith and build a better relationship with God.
He further appealed the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) to approach International organizations like the World Baptist Alliance and American Baptist Mission for making the historic places as pilgrimage sites.
Later the team visited the first Baptism pond situated at Molungkimong village where Yitachu played the role of a tourist guide and explained its historical importance to the visiting Myanmarese Naga delegation.
He also asked the village church leaders and council members to keep the pond in Naga soil open for everyone so that any devout follower could come and be baptized in that very pond where the first baptism took place in Naga soil on December 22, 1872.
Rev. Say Phroh, General Secretary of Naga Baptist Convention, Myanmar lauded Yitachu for his unconditional assistance since their team landed in Nagaland from Myanmar.
