District anti tobacco control cell (DTCC) Dimapur along with members of Indian Dental Association (IDA) Dimapur branch, Chakhro Students’ Union (CSU) office bearers, food safety officer and police personnel from Diphupar PS checked shops for tobacco and gutka products around schools in Chumukedima area on November 12. Altogether 19 shops were penalized for violation of Section 6 (b) and a fine of Rs. 2690 was collected.
The products were also seized and the samples will be sent to the lab for further testing.
In this regard, Dr. C Tetseo, district nodal officer, NTCP, has appealed to all the vendors in Dimapur to be aware of this as the flying squad and enforcement officers (COTPA) wouls be carrying out this exercise regularly.
Dr. Tetseo also made an appeal to all the principals and proprietors of educational institutions and training centres in Dimapur district to put up prohibitory sign board of Section 6 (b) in their respective institutions latest by December or would be penalized for non-compliance starting from January 2014.
He also clarified that hospitals whether private or government with research and training centres will come within the purview of this section.
