Govt Colleges principals’ conference

Principals were asked to identify the gifts and talents of their students and supervise and guide them to identify their potentials and excel in it.

The principals was encouraged to do so by parliamentary secretary for higher education and SCERT Deo Nukhu while addressing the Government Colleges Principals’ Conference Thursday at Directorate of Higher Education, Conference Hall.  The conference was held under the theme “Envision, inspire, excel.”

Highlighting the importance of vocational courses and extracurricular activities, Deo Nukhu asked the principals to indentify the interest of their students whether in music, sports or other fields and impart it so that they could surpass in their chosen interest.

He said such opportunities would help in building their skills and shape their talents which would help the students excel both in studies and physical activities.

Deo further appealed the principals to give them quality education and to train the students to become employable and capable for the betterment of Naga society, adding that students are the future leaders of the society.

Deo Nukhu also likened principals as parents of the students and exhorted them for proper supervision thus making them important people in the society.

Commissioner and secretary higher and technical education F.P. Solo in his welcome address said the result of a college depend on the principal’s leadership.

He said some colleges were doing well while some were lagging behind in producing good result. Solo also asserted that successful implementation of the new central scheme Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) depended on the principals.  

Solo then urged the principals to be dynamic and proactive leaders, so that the colleges will be dynamic in achievement.

Earlier, Principal Mt. Tiyi College Wokha Dr. Apeni Lotha pronounced the invocation, special song was presented Ajeen Longchari while vote of thanks was proposed by joint director HE Megono Liegise.

In the next session, director higher education C. Khalong Ao led the programme and the agenda pertaining to performance of government colleges / result analysis /NAAC were discussed.

On November 22 training in accounts for principals and accountants will be conducted with Retd. Sr. accounts officer (treasuries & accounts) Khenyi Woch as the resource person.

It may be mentioned that the 15 government colleges in Nagaland has total enrollment of 7875 students (2013-14) with 3998 male and 3877 female.
