Kaito urges students to cultivate peace

Nagaland home minister G. Kaito Aye has urged the student community to “cultivate peace” in the land and pave the way for peace to prevail in society. He said prosperity and glorious generation could come through peace and freedom.
Kaito was addressing the 36th general conference of Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) under the theme “a glorious generation” being hosted by Aqahuto Area Students’ Union (AASU) at Khekiho village from January 16-18. Kaito, who was the chief guest at the conference, urged the students to inculcate healthy competition among them with the view to equip one another, explore their abilities and make good use of it for better tomorrow.
Pointing out that dignity of labour was a crucial aspect for the advancement of the society, he said students who were the leaders of tomorrow should not shy away from working for themselves in order to lead a self-dependent in life.  The chief guest also unveiled the conference monolith.
The inaugural function was chaired by Benjamin Sema, convenor, programme committee. Akavi Zhimo, convenor, organizing committee for the conference delivered the welcome note. Rev. Helkath Kappo, director, Mission & Evangelism WSBAK pronounced the invocation prayer. Cultural and sports competition including racing of indigenous wooden kart were other highlights of the inaugural day.
Deputy ommissioner (DC) Dimapur N. Hushili Sema also exhorted the students during the introductory session in the afternoon of January 16. Hushili stressed on the importance of using mother tongue stating that losing of mother tongue was losing on cultural identity. She called on the students to discourage the enrolment of illegal immigrants in the electoral roll in their respective areas.
Pointing out the need for civic sense for the growth of a society, the DC said education must go along with civic sense. However in the context of Naga society, Hushili said people lacked civic sense and students were responsible to instill the same in the minds of the people. She also encouraged the students to go for quality education and not for quantity education.
