KVK Mokokchung organizes training cum awareness and sensitization programme

KVK Mokokchung organized one day duration training cum awareness and sensitization programme on “Protection of plant varieties and farmers right Act” on March 14 at MMC Conference  hall under the sponsorship of PPV & FRA authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
Programme coordinator, KVK, Mokokchung Dr. Pijush Kanti Biswas inaugurated the programme and welcome the participants and briefed them about importance of protection of plant varieties and farmers right Act-2001.
The resource person for the training programme was Dr. Atul Ch. Sharma, deputy registrar, PPV & FRA, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. He highlighted the details guidelines of protection of farmer’s plant varieties, registration procedures, DUS test centres in India.
Bendangjungla, SMS(Plant Breeding and Genetics) coordinated the programme and explained the role of farmers in preserving and conserving the germplasm of different crops.
Renbomo,SMS (Horticulture) also spoke on that occasion and said that Nagaland is a biodiversity hot spot and having huge need to conserve the germplasm from piracy. The main point of attraction was the exhibition of various germplasms of local rice varieties brought by the farmers for registration under PPV& FRA act.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr.Rongsen, SMS (Animal Science). Altogether 68 farmers under different blocks of Mokokchung district participated in the programme.
