NCP resolves to back Rio for LS

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Nagaland unit Saturday resolved to support DAN consensus candidate and state chief minister Neiphiu Rio for the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
NCP legislature party leader Dr. T.M Lotha said the decision was arrived after a closed door meeting of the NCP Nagaland state coordination members and legislators.
State NCP president and MLA Imtilemba Sangtam and T.M. Lotha said the decision to support Rio was based on the issue of the “protracted Naga political issue” which Rio had been seriously pursuing to bring about a permanent settlement.
Both the leaders also informed that the decision was also based on the advice and directives from NCP national leaders. In this regard, Dr. T.M. Lotha said the Naga political issue was in Rio’s “finger tips” and that only a “tall leader” like him could convince New Delhi to bring about a solution on the issue.
The meeting further resolved to strengthen NCP in the state and to revamp the party after the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, NCP expressed gratitude to its national leaders for appointing Imtilemba as the new state president while elevating former state NCP president Neiba Ndang to the post of national secretary and appointing NCP legislator Mmhonlumo Kikon as the election observer for Northeastern region.
The closed door meeting was also attended by state NCP general secretary (administration) Miathou Krose, NCP Youth Congress president Chonben Yanthan, state NCP vice president Er. T.L Semdok and state secretary Alemla.
