Rengma Students Union (RSU) has extended support to the ongoing agitation launched by Nagaland SSA Teachers’ Association (NSSATA) and also appealed the state government to review the non-detention policy under the Right to Education (RTE), 2009. In a statement, RSU vice president Zapi Kath asked the education department to release the pending salaries/arrears of SSA teachers at the earliest. The state government was expected to honour the hard earn salary of the teachers, which was the only source of income for the teacher and their family, said RSU. The union said as a result of the ongoing stir, careers of thousands of students have been “threatened and jeopardized.” RSU also appealed the state government to review the non-detention policy under RTE which had “a negative impact” on the students and resulted in increasing numbers of failed students at the higher classes. RSU asked the state government to take prompt action and facilitate for early settlement of the issues.
