Reacting to the purported remark made by Congress Lok Sabha candidate K.V. Pusa that the “actions of the BJP has been to target religious minorities including Christians”, a senior BJP leader N Hotongse Sangtam said all political parties were not against any society or religion be it Congress, BJP, NPF or any other party.
Speaking to media persons at his residence Wednesday, Sangtam said a political party existed only for development of the people, saying Pusa’s statement on a particular party was “not in the right note.” Sangtam said during 2003, the BJP-led NDA regime under A.B Vajpayee had sanctioned more than Rs.1000 crore to Nagaland, which, he claimed was the “highest package” ever to be received by the state government. He questioned “if the BJP was a communal party and against Christianity, would it (BJP) give such a package?”
Further, the BJP leader said individual, societies and the state as a whole were immensely benefited financially. However, he lamented that the state government did not utilize the funds for road and communications up to expectations. He expressed hoped that in future all political parties in Nagaland would stop the “blame game”, which was detrimental to the society.
