
As part of a tour to inform people on Food Security Act 2013, director of Food and Civil Supplies Nagaland Sedevikho Khro held an interactive meeting with ward chairmen and NGOs Kiphire Wednesday at deputy commissioner’s conference hall.
Addressing the gathering, Sedevikho Khro said Food Security bill was passed bythe central government to identify the genuine needy person in the country and asked the gathering to select the right person in village and town level.
He said that it is the high time to realize and act in reality and pave ways for the poor and needy.
Asserting that GBs, village council chairmen and ward leaders are responsible in selecting a priority household, he asked them to be sincere in their leadership.
He asserted that leaders are chosen to shoulder the responsibility of the people and if they cannot do, people will not have confidence on them.
The director while relating some criteria of Food Security Act 2013 said that 80% of the total household in rural area and 60% household in the urban would be covered by this Act.
Declaring that the General Census 2011 and Socio Economic Caste census are not tally, the director disclosed that the centre has asked the state to take up with the socio economic caste census for implementation of Food Security Act.
He however said that “knowing the ground reality” state government has chosen to go with the General Census 2011 in the state.
Keeping in mind women empowerment policy, Sedevikho Khro said head of the family in the ration card would be a female which he said is a new system in the card.
During the interaction session, the ward chairmen put up the questions on how to implement the Act, functions of fair price shop, and delay in issuing of public distribution system in the district.
In response to some of the questions, the director said that the fair price shop was likely to be computerized soon in order to have more transparency between the beneficiaries and the department.
He also disclosed that with the implementation of FSA every person shall be allotted 5 kgs each per month.
The programme was chaired by assistant director of supply Kiphire Kiyevi I Swu chaired the programme. Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire Neposo.
Theluo along with his subordinate officer was also present at the meeting.
