Around 256 persons turn out for the eye screening camp at Changtongya village, organized by Jorhat Lions Eye Hospital on Saturday. The camp was sponsored by the grand children of late. Sosangrepba of Changtongya village.
Believing in the motto, ‘Service to man is service to God’, managing trustee of Jorhat Lions Eye Hospital, Lion NC Karnany said that the Hospital was established in 1994 and since then, it had treated more than one lakh fifty thousand eye patients. It had conducted more than 28,000 successful cataract surgeries’. He said that with the advancement in science and technology “it only takes 20 to 30 minutes for a cataract surgery”. Further, Karnany informed that the hospital perform cataract surgeries for free. Karnany further thanked the grand children of late Sosangrepba, led by Imo Jamir, IRS (Joint-Commissioner, Income Tax, Jorhat) for providing the hospital an opportunity to conduct the camp in interior of the state.
Meanwhile, of the 256 registered, the doctors were surprised to detect an over whelming number with cataract.
Earlier, the brief inaugural function was chaired by Tia (a sponsor) while the invocation was said by pastor, Rev. I Wati Jamir. Village Council Chairman, Imnakumzuk welcomed the patients and the doctors.
The eye camp team consisted of nine members of the Lions Club of Jorhat and Trustees of Hospital led by president Lion BK Modi, along with Dr. Pulakesh Bhagwati, CMO and five wards and nurses from Jorhat Lions Eye Hospital.
