Governor of Meghalaya Dr. Krishan Kant Paul sworn in as the 20th governor in-charge of Nagaland Tuesday at Durbar Hall Raj Bhavan.
Justice T. Vaiphei, Judge of the Gauhati High Court administered the oath of office to Dr. KK Paul.
In his brief address after the oath taking ceremony, Dr.Paul assured that though he would be the governor of the state for a brief tenure, he would uphold the highest tradition of the exalted position and will work for the principles that are sacred to our democratic values.
Dr. KK Paul said that the oath he took enjoined him to uphold the constitution of India and to devote himself to the service and well being of the people of Nagaland. The Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to fairness and justice while discharging his functions.
The Governor also described Nagaland as a beautiful state often dubbed as “The Land of Festivals and the famous Hornbill festival that drew all tribes in the state make their cultural presentation showcasing cultural the unity in diversity of the state.
Further the Governor described Nagaland as a state with tremendous potential which, together with green cover, water resources, mineral wealth, bracing climate and the capabilities of the people which could synergise the dynamics of the state economy. He also stressed on need for science, technology and innovation to propel the state as a knowledgeable society.
Dr. Paul reiterated that peace was essential for growth and prosperity and there was need to facilitate a conductive social environment to enable the willing participation of all section of society for inclusive development.
The Governor also laid emphasis on the crucial need for ensuring the highest standard of governance, keeping in mind the interests of the people who are supreme. He thanked the organizers for the warm welcome accorded to him.
Earlier the Dr.K.K.Paul and Justice T.Vaiphei were given a traditional welcome as they entered the durbar hall for the oath taking ceremony.
Chief Minister, Speaker NLA and council of ministers, parliamentary secretaries, Advisors, MLAs, former parliamentarians, senior government of officials, NGOs and others attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Gov pays tribute to WW II martyrs
KOHIMA, JUL 2 (NPN): Nagaland governor Dr. Krishan Kant Paul visited World War II cemetery Wednesday afternoon after swearing-in ceremony. At the cemetery, the governor paid tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Allied Forces by laying a wreath. Guard of honour was led by 19th Assam rifles.
Dr.Krishan, who is also the governor of Meghalaya, was accompanied by deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima W.Honje Konyak, SP Kohima Joseph and other officials. The World War II cemetery at Kohima is currently maintained by Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC).
BIO DATA OF DR PAUL
Dr. K.K. Paul, born on February 6,1948 is a Ph.D in MSc and after joining service as IPS officer, served at various assignments, the last being as Commissioner of Police Delhi in 2007.He also served in various capacities as security and intelligence and specially selected to investigate the assassination of Indira Gandhi besides cricket match fixing scam, bomb blasts, The Tehelka matters, vigilance cases and defence deals etc. He was also an award winner of various service medals, a general medal (Sangram Medal) and Paschim Star in addition to medals on the 25th year and 50th year of Indian independence. After retirement from service, Dr.Paul served as member of UPSC for five year and six months.
