Parliamentary secretary for women resource development and border affairs, N. Thomas Lotha Thursday said the state government would not ignore or mistreat women who had performed well in different walks of life.
The parliamentary secretary said this while addressing group women leaders from various districts during a review meeting with partner NGOS and sub- PNGOS at directorate of women resource development, Meriema.
Thomas who also the chief guest during meeting said Naga society dominated by male failed in many areas and now the chance would be given to the women to exhibit their potentials. He assured cooperation for the welfare and development of women in the state. Thomas informed that he was working closely with the Centre on a road-map for women’s development. He disclosed that the solar lighting system for the rural areas was under process and would be completed within 2-3 months.
On health issue, Thomas said care programme for the cervical cancer patients would be established in the state soon. He expressed the hope that Nagaland would be the first state in India for free cervical cancer treatment. He said Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi was likely to launch the programme along with UN delegates. Lotha also informed that hostel for Naga women along with the training and research centre would be set up soon. He suggested the SHGs to form a federation unit for better functioning and co-ordination.

Director of women resource development Neilavou Keditsu chaired the programme. Short speech on behalf of PNGOs was delivered by President KNSK and one member spoke on behalf of border area employees’ project. Around 50 delegates including, deputy Secretary for Women Resource Development, PNGOS, sub-PNGOS, various women Hoho leaders from 11 districts attended the programme.
