Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Thursday said it was compelled to issue a statement to make aware of the initiatives taken by the NSF in regard to the B.Sc. Horticulture seat allotment issue.
In a press release, NSF president Tongpang Ozukum and general secretary Esther Rhakho said that the federation since the day the issue was brought to their knowledge, met the Technical Education directorate officials and Com & Secy. Higher Education on two occasions.
NSF said it had urged the department to initiate immediate steps to accommodate Miss Watinaro A. Imsong “under any circumstances”, since she was selected to undergo B.Sc Horticulture by Technical Education department at DYSP University through AIPMT selection examination.
NSF said it had also met Chief Secretary on July 1 and apprised her on the matter and demanded immediate intervention of the government to resolve the issue.
NSF said a representation was also submitted to the government on August 5 with three days ultimatum to find a way to accommodate Watinaro in the same university.
NSF had also pointed out to the government to take corrective measures in order to avoid “misunderstanding and communication gap” between the departments in the future, where innocent students were always at the receiving end.
Following the submission of the representation, NSF said the state government had written to NEC secretary, requesting another B.Sc Horti seat under NEC quota to accommodate Watinaro in the same Institute. However, NSF said it was made known that NEC could respond only after August 14. NSF pointed out that both departments– Technical Education (nodal department) and Horticulture were maintaining “its own right basing on the letter given by NEC for nomination of candidate to undergo 4 year B.Sc Horti at DYSP University.”
“It is duty of the government of Nagaland and not Naga Students’ Federation to clear the confusion and misunderstanding between the government agencies and departments and take necessary action or corrective measure against the defaulting department”, NSF asserted.
Stating that the federation was for the welfare of the students’ community, NSF said in this case, to accommodate Watinaro was top most priority and that the federation was working on it.  Asserting that it stood firm on the issue, NSF said it has always acknowledged and appreciated constructive suggestion from any individual, group or organization. However, NSF appealed to all the citizens “to refrain from throwing derogatory and maligning remarks, intended to tarnish the image of the federation and the officials without ascertaining the reality”.
NSF reiterated its demand to the government to take prompt action to accommodate Watinaro and also reminded the government on its earlier suggestion to either include Horticulture and Forest department as members of State Common Selection Board (SCSB) or make it mandatory for the technical department to notify/intimate the allied departments of any decision/resolution taken by the SCSB, to avoid such misunderstanding and communication gap between the departments in the future.
