STPI to set up incubation centre, IT Park in state

Software Technology Park of India (STPI) is all set to establish an incubation centre in Kohima which would be operational within six months at IT directorate Kohima. This would be followed by building of an IT Park in Dimapur to support entrepreneurs in the state.
This was disclosed by Director General STPI Dr. Omkar Rai during an interaction with media persons and entrepreneurs Tuesday evening at the De Oriental Grand.
Dr. Omkar Rai said the decision was taken after visiting the IT directorate. He asserted that STPI would start “a plug and play” in Kohima in a few months time and that entrepreneurs could look forward for promotion of incubation and opportunity for incubation would be based on first come first basis for IT companies, where internet, PC and power would be provided. He also assured to provide high speed internet connectivity and along with power backup.
Rai said for incubation, minimum of 200 entrepreneurs with or without companies could be accommodated. He further said another plus point the Northeast people had was the “good accent” through which Northeast region would progress and reap benefit of this initiative.
He said STPI unit could import anything, avail customs duty exemption on import, tax benefits for companies to come and invest in Northeast states.
The director also disclosed that once STPI was established in Nagaland, Naga youths would be greatly benefitted stating that Nagas were “very creative” and maintained that they should capitalize on “income tax exemption.”
Director STPI Bangalore and Guwahati Prabir Kumar Das said for setting up the business in STPI, evaluation of companies or entrepreneurs would be done by an esteemed committee on a professional and technical basis.
He said for STPI registration, the company or entrepreneur needed to be an export oriented company. However, STPI has never ignored any application, he added.
Commissioner and secretary IT K.T Vizo thanked the team for visiting the state and for being responsive in setting up STPI. He said once all the projects were materialized, Naga boys and girls who were employed in metropolitan cities could look forward to return home and work in the state as the project would greatly ease unemployment problem in the state.
Currently there are 3300 units working with STPI with 10,000 companies registered with STPI from across the country. Entrepreneur Ben Imchen informed that state’s biggest hurdle for any investor was the internet connectivity and power.
STPI is a society set up by the Centre in 1991 with the objective to encourage, promoting and boosting software exports from India.
