Horsehair worm discovered in Nagaland

A new species of horsehair worm has been reported from Nagaland by Dr. Andreas Schmidt- Rhaesa, Zoological Museum and Institute, Biocenter Grindel, Matrin-Luther-King-Platz3, University of Hamburg, 20146 Hamburg, Germany, Dr. Limatemjen, department of Zoology, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, Nagaland, and Dr. Arun K. Yadav, department of Zoology, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
The specimen was collected by Zakrusunu Toso Longchar from Tsupo of Viswema Village,  Kohima district.
Dr. Lima informed that the rare and new species has been named Chordodes combiaerolatus (Presence of both simple and tubercle areoles on the cuticle) and the results were based on morphological traits and SEM studies of their cuticular structures.
 The new finding has been published in the latest issue of Zootaxa 3925 (2): 202 – 210 (International Journal of Zoological Taxonomy).
The currently known diversity of horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) from India is only 17 species. The genusChordodes is distributed in tropical and subtropical regions and their hosts are usually praying mantids.
