One of Sümi’s oldest village in western Sümi area Thahekhu Village celebrated its 64th foundation day, Sunday at village local ground organized by the village council. Speaking on the occasion, Thahekhu Village head GB Hukiye Yepthomi reminded the gathering that it was the sacrifice and prayer of the village founders that the village has attain its 64th foundation day.
Remembering the sacrifices and contributions of the founders, Yepthomi acknowledged them and also asked the gathering to remain thankful for God’s blessings.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility within the village, the head GB urged each and every individual to love one another, to be united and live in harmony and peace.
In the occasion, surviving village founders Lukheyi Awomi and Toheje Ayemi narrated on how the founders migrated to the current location.
They informed that 62 people and 12 households initially founded the village in the year 1951 and thanked the Almighty God that the village has prospered and now many inhabits in the village.
They also urged the present generation to seek God’s guidance in their daily walks of life through which the village as whole can attain greater heights. The surviving village founders were also acknowledged with the presents.
Other highlights of the foundation day are folksong presented by village founders, indigenous games by STH Thahekhu village, folks dance by block-7 and Imuno pi sujo-sujo by the village students union.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by village council chairman Khekuto Yepthomi, invocation prayer was said by Pastor Thahekhu Village Baptist Church, Tovishe Sema, vote of thanks was pronounced by GB Tovito Aye and benediction was said by associate Pastor Thahekhu village Baptist Church Mughabeto Jimo.
