He walked away from chart toppers One Direction last month because, in his own words, he wanted to be a regular 22-year-old. But now it appears that Zayn Malik could be set for movie stardom after it was revealed he has entered into discussions with Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha. Gurinder, 55, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘We’ve met and spoken. He trained as an actor first then became part of the band. So I think what he’ll be doing is staying true to his heart – and that’s all you can ever do.’
However, Gurinder – who is currently working on Bollywood-inspired Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical – insists she doesn’t have a role planned out for the star ‘just yet’. She explained: ‘I don’t have a part in mind for Zayn just yet but hopefully in the future.’ Zayn recently confessed to being a huge fan of Bollywood movies and admitted he’s always been a ‘lover boy’ and able to charm the ladies thanks to growing up watching his favourite film Bombay.
The heartthrob – who is engaged to Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards – said: ‘I was a lover boy around the age of ten. I always had an idea from an early age what it was like to be in love – it was only later I figured it out!’ Meanwhile, on Monday, Zayn broke a month long absence from Twitter with two tweets addressed to his loyal fan-base. He shared his first tweets since sensationally quitting One Direction mid-way through the South East Asian leg of their current tour in March.
In the first, he credited those who have remained loyal to him following his decision to leave the band, writing: ‘Wanna say thanks to everyone that’s been there for me over the last few weeks, love you all.. you know who you are x’. Posting a second shortly afterwards he added: ‘The x is a kiss by the way ha it’s not a mystery .. sorry to any confused …’ The tweets emerged almost a month after Zayn, engaged to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, reacted angrily to claims of a fling while partying in Indonesia during a break from One Direction’s mammoth On The Road Again stadium tour.
Tweeting on March 18, he wrote: ‘I’m 22 years old… I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous f***s in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like x.’
