CS urges officers to serve citizens

State Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar, today emphasized that the primary duty of the officers was to carry out the policies and programmes formulated by the government for the benefit of the people. He, therefore, encouraged the officers to rededicate themselves and renew their commitment to serve the citizens in a better way.
The Chief Secretary said this in his address to the officers on the second day of the Civil Services Day celebration on April 21 at the Administrative Training Institute, Kohima. He said the celebration was an opportunity to highlight what the departments had achieved over a period of time.
Pankaj said celebrating the Civil Services Day for the first time in the State was a landmark occasion for all the civil servants from various services. He said the tradition of observing the civil services day was not very old, adding the exercise was started by the Government of India in the year 2006 and gradually became an annual event in the Government of India calendar.
The Chief Secretary also said that this year the new initiative has been made possible in compliance with the directives issued by the Cabinet Secretary, GOI, to all the states. The main motive of the two day event, according to him, was to uphold the ethics of being a civil servant and make the celebration a grand success.
Secretary Home and Director, ATI, Lithrongla G Chishi, in her vote of thanks, said that the time has come for all the Departments to show good results. She expressed her happiness to the chief minister, TR Zeliang, for his intellectual and fruitful speech delivered in the inaugural function. She also said that the time for demonstration and spoon feeding was gone and hoped that the meeting would surely bring result through retrospection of the past and introspection for the future.
She assured that the department of ATI would bring out a copy based on the presentation of the 2 day of Civil Services so that the state could move forward and refrain from random appointment without sanctioned post, payment of salaries to absentees and fake pensioners.
Meanwhile, the valedictory function of the 2-day Civil Services Day was held at Multipurpose Hall, ATI, on April 21.
The second day technical session began with a power point presentation on the activities by respective departments such Health & Family Welfare, Urban Development, Agriculture and Tourism.
In conclusion, the State Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar, delivered the valedictory address.
Agriculture Production Commissioner, Imkonglemba, chaired the programme while the Additional Director, ATI, Mhalezothie Khezhie, proposed the vote of thanks.
