Kohima rally to eradicate malaria

In effort to eradicate Malaria, State Vector Borne Diseases Control
Programmes (SVBDCP), Department of Health & Family Welfare had organized a rally on April 25 at Kohima coinciding with the ‘World Malaria Day’ on the theme ‘Invest in the future, defeat Malaria.’
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi, appealed to the gathering to join and fight against the disease and give selfless services to the environment. She advised to take better precaution to avoid the disease and said Kohima has less cases of Malaria in comparison with the other districts. 
Further, she urged the people in the rally to disseminate the massage of keeping the surrounding clean. The chief guest also flagged off the rally.
Delivering a keynote address on the significance of the day, Additional Director NVBDCP, GoI, New Delhi, Dr. Avdhesh Kumar stated that the significance of the day was for creating awareness about different aspects of malaria diseases and it effects. He said northeastern region has more number of diseases and deaths from malaria. 
He said malaria is transmitted by bite of mosquito and could be fatal if not treated on time. He said the government is running a programme to make community aware of the disease. He also urged the participants to make information known to family, friends and neighbours to avoid infection from malaria. He further appealed the communities to joint hands in the fight against malaria.
Epidemiological situation in Nagaland was highlighted by the Deputy Director, SVBDCP Department of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Vethihulu, while a special number on malaria was presented by Nangkamlak, Field Supervisor Development Association of Nagaland. 
The first prize in the slogan competition was won by Government School PWD, while the second prize was won by Christ King Higher Secondary School. The vote of thanks was delivered by DPO Development Association of Nagaland, NG Phuba James.
NEISSR holds seminar on Malaria

North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Dimapur, has organized a seminar on Malaria awareness on April 27 with the Assistant Director of Urban Malaria Scheme (NUBDCP), Kikolul Khieya, and the Zonal Entomologist, Vizo, as the resource persons.
During the programme, Khieya stated that Dimapur has the highest number of people diagnosed with malaria with 95% positive patient registered from the month of January to March 2015. He said 10 to 15000 people die of malaria every year in India. He, therefore, it has become important to conduct awareness programmes in the state as malaria has become the most sensitive issues affecting the society.
Keieya maintained that it is also important to educate the people about the prevention before it affects the society in a larger scale because malaria has become one of the global problem and the major causes of preventable death in the world today. 
Meanwhile, Vizo encouraged the Master of Social Work (MSW) trainees to create awareness on malaria prevention, control and spreading. The seminar was attended by the MSW trainees and the staff.
