Northeast conclave on drug abuse prevention workshop was jointly organised by MSJE and NSS and hosted by the government of Meghalaya on June 15.
During this conclave, the members of the north east chapter of FINGO DAP (Federation of Indian NGOs on drug abuse prevention) led by its national vice president W. C Humtsoe and president IDUF & N Naga DAO, Abu Mere along with representatives from all the eight NE sister states met the union minister for ministry of social justice and empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot along with MSJE officials at hotel pinewood Shillong.
FINGO DAP members from each representing states shared their experiences and grievances to the minister and the MSJE officials. The Nagaland team appraised the current drug abuse scenario in the state while thanking the minister and his department for revising the existing schemes on drug abuse prevention. The team also reiterated its demand to set up rehabilitation centres in each district apart from the existing five IRCAs supported by the minister. The team further requested the minister to expedite formulation on community friendly drug policy and strengthen the state specific primary prevention programme in all aspects.
