Ikishe Model Village has been declared as “banana village” under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY on July 1 at Ikishe village by MP Rajya Sabha H. Khekiho Zhimomi.
Addressing the villagers at the declaration programme, Khekiho said Ikishe village has been selected as a model village with a purpose and asked the villagers to make best use of the opportunity and build up the all round culture of the village.
Adopting the village as model village would be meaningless if the village fails to go forward in all spheres, be it infrastructural development or economic sustainability, Khekiho opined.
He said whatever development comes to the village under SAGY would be for the benefit of the entire villagers.
Khekiho said, initially the village should aim to plant 10,000 banana plants under the scheme and planted a banana plant to mark the occasion.
District Horticulture Officer, Dimapur Eyongol Natso, delivered technical advice to the villagers on how to successfully plant and maintain banana trees. EAC Chumukedima and Charge Officer Thungbemo Patton, spoke on adoption of banana plantation and further urged upon the villagers to set good example for other villagers to follow.  The programme was chaired by SAGY Chairman Dr. Kheshito Zhimomi.
